Design / Manufacturing Engineer Vacancy

Location: NG12 / NG11 Nottingham based and will include global travel.
Payscale: £30,000 - £40,000 per annum + Benefits
Position: Permanent, Full Time


We are looking for an experienced Design / Manufacturing Engineer to join our successful team. The role will focus on working with our current customer base and new enquiries designing and improving current products & manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods. This role will require overseas travel to implement and reinforce the identified processes at the manufacturing location.
  • Responsible for the full life cycle of the product from concept design to product validation.
  • Design for manufacture, materials and vendor selection, drawing and BOM accuracy and design of tooling, jigs, fixtures and test equipment.
  • Provide active input to the Design Review Process and Project Plans.
  • Review and approve Bill of Materials accuracy and structure.
  • Complete project deliverables as required to agreed targets (time, cost, quality).
  • Identify and request necessary resources to enable pre-production build of NPI products.
  • Produce production documentation as required, to ensure products are built to the correct quality within the build process; including test off & final inspection documentation.
  • Support and advise Design Engineers and Technical Buyers on the source and selection of suitable vendors.
  • Liaise with suppliers to confirm specifications of new or modified items for prototype and development purposes.
  • Evaluates and improves manufacturing processes by; applying knowledge of product design, casting, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors;
  • Assists the factory to develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labour, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
  • Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
  • Completes design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
    Qualifications and Skills
    Competences / Requirements:
  • Educated to Degree level in Mechanical Engineering or can show other recognised qualifications such as HND and career progression.
  • Demonstrate experience working successfully in a Project Engineering or New Product Introduction role within engineering or science based related company.
  • Competent in the use of Autodesk Inventor, Solid works or other 3D CAD/CAE tools.
  • A minimum of ten years’ experience in the industry.
  • Experience of Product Development showing analysis of success and failures to make improvements in the future.
  • Adept at dealing with complexity.
  • Manufacturing knowledge; have good working knowledge of manufacturing methods and procedures relevant to the industry.
  • Manufacturing Quality – Good working knowledge of Quality targets, industry standards and identifying / meeting KPI.
  • Communication have good two-way communication skills and communicate on all levels.
  • Presenting Technical Information; Confident to present and discuss technical information in a clear and concise manner to both work colleagues and customers.
  • An understanding of Lean Manufacture, Continuous Improvement and process methodology.
  • An industry recognised Project Management qualification.
  • Experience in the use of DFM/DFA and FMEA tools.
  • Membership of certified body / Chartered Engineer.
