After months of planning and several days of construction, Hillhead 2026 finally opened its gates, and what a three days it proved to be!
As the UK's premier exhibition for the quarrying, construction, recycling and bulk materials handling industries, Hillhead once again brought together thousands of professionals, hundreds of exhibitors and some of the world's leading manufacturers in one truly unique setting. With more than 620 exhibitors showcasing the latest products, technologies and innovations, it was another groundbreaking event for the industry. ![]() For ATG, Hillhead has always been about far more than simply exhibiting. It is an opportunity to strengthen existing relationships, meet new customers, understand the challenges facing OEMs and demonstrate how our global sourcing, engineering and logistics expertise helps businesses build stronger, more resilient supply chains. Our Stand N19 quickly became a hub of activity throughout the show. The distinctive three-container stand attracted attention from the moment visitors entered the exhibition, providing the perfect platform to showcase not only our products but the complete range of services that make ATG a trusted sourcing partner to manufacturers around the world. ![]() Over the three days, our team welcomed a steady stream of visitors from across the UK and overseas. It was fantastic to reconnect with long-standing customers, introduce ourselves to businesses discovering ATG for the first time and have countless conversations about the challenges currently facing the manufacturing sector. Rising costs, supply chain resilience, component quality, lead times and sourcing confidence were recurring themes. These are exactly the areas where ATG continues to deliver real value. Visitors were able to explore the breadth of the ATG offering, from precision machined parts to castings to fabrications and complete supply chain solutions. More importantly, they were able to speak directly with our experienced team about how ATG manages every stage of the sourcing journey, from supplier qualification and engineering support through to quality assurance, logistics and final delivery. ![]() One of the most rewarding aspects of Hillhead is the opportunity to have meaningful, face-to-face conversations. While technology allows us to stay connected every day, nothing replaces meeting customers in person, understanding their businesses and discussing future projects over a coffee. Those conversations often lead to the strongest partnerships, and Hillhead continues to provide the ideal environment for them to begin. ![]() The exhibition also gave us the opportunity to demonstrate the strength of the wider ATG Group. Visitors were able to learn more about the capabilities across our international operations and how our engineering teams, sourcing specialists and logistics experts work together to support customers on a truly global scale. Whether businesses require a single component or a complete outsourced sourcing solution, our objective remains the same. That is to reduce risk, improve quality and deliver complete confidence throughout the supply chain. ![]() Away from our own stand, Hillhead once again showcased why it remains one of the industry's flagship events. The scale of the machinery, live demonstrations and technical innovation on display reinforced the strength and resilience of the sectors we serve and highlighted the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. As the exhibition drew to a close, there was certainly a sense of achievement. The months of preparation, planning and teamwork had paid off, but in many ways the real work now begins. The conversations held over the three days will develop into meetings, quotations, new projects and, we hope, long-term partnerships. ![]() We would like to thank everyone who visited the ATG stand, as well as our customers, suppliers, partners and the Hillhead organisers for making the event such a success. Finally, thank you to the entire ATG team whose hard work, professionalism and enthusiasm helped make Hillhead 2026 one of our most successful exhibitions to date. We are already looking forward to continuing the conversations that began at Hillhead. And returning again in 2028, bigger and of course, better than before! From Empty Ground to Exhibition Ready: Building the ATG Stand at Hillhead 2026
Discover how months of planning and days of hard work transformed an empty exhibition plot into one of Hillhead 2026's standout stands. |
|
When visitors arrive at Hillhead, they see polished exhibition stands, vibrant branding and busy teams welcoming customers. What they don't often see is the incredible amount of work that happens behind the scenes before the gates even open.
For the ATG team, the journey to Hillhead 2026 began long before the first containers arrived. Months of planning, design meetings and logistics coordination all led to one goal – creating a stand that reflected the quality, professionalism and global capabilities of ATG. An Empty Canvas ![]() A week before Hillhead was due to start, our plot was simply an empty space waiting to be transformed. While it may have looked unremarkable, every measurement, delivery and installation had already been carefully planned. The first task was positioning the containers that would form the centrepiece of our stand. Watching heavy lifting equipment manoeuvre each container into place was an impressive sight and marked the point where months of planning started becoming reality. With the structure established, the footprint of the stand immediately began to take shape. What had been an open area only 24 hours earlier was beginning to resemble the impressive exhibition space we had envisioned. A key part of bringing our vision to life was the support of Portable Space, whose expertise played a vital role in the stand's construction. As specialists in high-quality modular container solutions, their team expertly delivered and positioned the containers that formed the backbone of our two-storey exhibition stand. Their professionalism, attention to detail and seamless coordination with the wider build team ensured the installation ran smoothly, providing a solid foundation for everything that followed. We're grateful for their support in helping create a stand that became one of the standout features of Hillhead 2026. ![]() Building the Framework The following stage saw the stand evolve rapidly. The pergola was installed, the staircase assembled and the upper viewing area constructed. Every component had to be installed safely and precisely, with multiple contractors working together to keep everything on schedule. Around the site, forklifts, cranes and construction teams worked tirelessly as hundreds of exhibitors prepared for opening day. The atmosphere was busy but focused, with every exhibitor sharing the same objective – to be ready when visitors arrived. For the ATG team, progress was exciting to watch. Every hour brought another visible milestone as the stand became more recognisable. ![]() Bringing the Brand to Life Once the main structure was complete, attention turned to branding. Large-format graphics were installed across the containers, instantly transforming the steel structure into an unmistakably ATG exhibition stand. Company logos, messaging and product visuals began appearing across every visible surface, ensuring visitors would immediately recognise who we are and what we do. ![]() The LED screen was installed to showcase customer projects, product videos and key messages throughout the event, while flags were raised high above the stand to maximise visibility across the exhibition. Inside, furniture arrived, meeting areas were arranged and hospitality facilities were prepared. The space quickly changed from a construction project into a welcoming environment where conversations and new business relationships could flourish. ![]() The Final Details As opening day approached, the pace intensified. Marketing materials were unpacked, product displays carefully positioned and every screen tested. The team worked through countless final checks, making sure every graphic was straight, every cable hidden and every detail met the high standards we set ourselves. These finishing touches may seem small, but collectively they create the professional first impression that visitors experience when they step onto the stand. There was a genuine sense of excitement as the final pieces fell into place. After days of hard work, the transformation was complete. ![]() More Than Just a Stand Building an exhibition stand is about far more than construction. It is about teamwork. Throughout the build, colleagues from across the business worked together to overcome challenges, coordinate deliveries and ensure everything was completed on time. From marketing and sales to operations and logistics, everyone played their part in delivering a stand that represented the very best of ATG. ![]() The build also reflected the qualities we bring to our customers every day: planning, organisation, problem-solving and attention to detail. The same approach we apply to global sourcing projects and supply chain management was evident throughout every stage of the exhibition setup. Ready to Welcome the Industry ![]() By the evening before the exhibition opened, the transformation was remarkable. What had started as an empty plot was now a striking two-storey exhibition stand, complete with meeting areas, digital displays, product information and welcoming spaces for customers from around the world. As the first visitors walked through the gates the following morning, they saw the finished result. Behind every graphic, every screen and every conversation was a dedicated team whose hard work had made it possible. ![]() Hillhead is one of the most important events in the quarrying, mining and recycling calendar, and we were proud to once again showcase everything ATG has to offer. From the first container being lifted into position to the moment we welcomed our first customer, the journey perfectly demonstrated what ATG is all about: careful planning, exceptional teamwork and delivering quality from start to finish. The Hidden Gaps Between a Factory and Your Production Line
Why the real risk in global sourcing lies between specification, shipment and installation. |
|
When OEMs think about sourcing risk, the focus almost always lands on the factory floor. The natural questions are technical and visible. Can the supplier hold tolerance? Is the material correct? Does the equipment meet specification?
Those questions matter. But in global supply chains, the most expensive failures rarely originate inside the factory itself. They emerge in the spaces between your engineering team, the overseas manufacturer, the freight forwarder and ultimately your own production line. Risk lives in the gaps. ![]() The first gap appears at interpretation. A drawing leaves your engineering department with clear intent. It arrives at a factory thousands of miles away, where it is translated, reviewed and interpreted. Small assumptions creep in. A material grade may be considered equivalent. A surface treatment may be adjusted based on local availability. A tolerance may be deemed commercially unrealistic without discussion. None of this is malicious. It is simply misalignment. But without structured technical validation, those assumptions move from sample stage to full production before anyone realises. By the time a deviation is discovered, the shipment may already be on the water. Then there is the capability gap. Supplier approval is often treated as a one-time milestone: audit complete, sample approved, supplier onboarded. Yet factories evolve. Skilled labour changes. Sub-suppliers shift. Capacity fluctuates. Raw material sources are substituted. A facility that performed flawlessly eighteen months ago may not be operating under the same conditions today. Without ongoing oversight, quality drift becomes gradual and invisible. It only becomes visible when it reaches your assembly line. ![]() Compliance creates another blind spot. In high-reliability sectors, documentation is as critical as performance. Certification, traceability, declarations, test reports and export documentation must be correct and complete. When they are not, delays occur at customs. Installations are held up. Regulatory exposure increases. These are not dramatic manufacturing failures; they are administrative gaps that quietly disrupt operations and erode margin. ![]() Logistics introduces further separation between manufacturing success and production continuity. A part can be machined perfectly yet damaged due to inadequate packaging. A shipment can be ready on time yet delayed due to incorrect classification or incomplete paperwork. Freight decisions influence lead times, working capital and production scheduling. Treating logistics as separate from technical accountability creates yet another disconnect in the chain. Perhaps the most overlooked gap of all is accountability. In fragmented sourcing models, responsibility is diluted. When something goes wrong, ownership becomes unclear. Is it the factory? The freight provider? The customs broker? The procurements team? In complex global supply chains, ambiguity creates delay and delay compounds cost. The reality is that most sourcing failures are not catastrophic breakdowns in manufacturing capability. They are small, preventable disconnects that accumulate. A coating specification not clarified. A tolerance stack-up not reviewed. A certification not cross-checked. A packaging standard not fully defined. Individually, each seems minor. Collectively, they create disruption. Closing those gaps requires more than price negotiation or supplier introduction. It requires a sourcing partner embedded between specification and installation. One that understands engineering intent, validates factory capability continuously, manages documentation rigorously and integrates logistics within the same accountable framework. ![]() At ATG, that is precisely where we operate. Our native-speaking engineers work on the ground in manufacturing regions to prevent interpretation drift before production scales. We conduct structured qualification and ongoing validation rather than relying on one-time approval. We manage documentation and compliance as protective measures, not paperwork exercises. And we integrate global logistics within a single accountable process that runs from prototype qualification through to final delivery. Sourcing is not a transactional handover between departments. It is a bridge between design and performance. And like any bridge, its strength depends on the integrity of every connection point. When evaluating a global sourcing partner, the critical question is not simply which factories they can access. It is how they manage the spaces in between. How do they prevent technical misinterpretation? How do they validate capability over time? How do they ensure documentation withstands scrutiny? How do they maintain accountability across borders? In global manufacturing, risk rarely sits where you expect it. It sits in the transitions between teams, between countries, between shipment and installation. And that is exactly where it needs to be managed. If your global supply chain depends on overseas manufacturing, it’s worth asking one simple question: who is managing the gaps? In Uncertain Times, You Need a Global Sourcing Partner You Can Trust
In a world of constant disruption, trusted sourcing is your greatest asset. |
|
Uncertainty has become the defining backdrop for global manufacturing and supply chains. Geopolitical tension, shifting trade policies, inflationary pressure, labour constraints and climate-related disruption are no longer isolated events, they are persistent operating conditions. For OEMs, this has fundamentally changed what “good sourcing” looks like.
Price still matters. Availability still matters. But above all, trust now sits at the centre of global sourcing decisions. ![]() Volatility is the new normal In practical terms, OEMs are navigating markets where demand is present but safety margins are slimmer, tolerance for disruption is lower and the consequences of supply failure are more severe than ever. When conditions are fragile, the margin for error in sourcing disappears. The hidden cost of “cheap” sourcing Over the past two decades, global sourcing often became transactional. Suppliers were selected primarily on unit price, annual negotiations focused on short-term savings and risk was assumed to be manageable or external. That model is no longer fit for purpose. A missed shipment, a quality escape, or a compliance failure can now shut down production lines, damage customer confidence, or expose organisations to regulatory and reputational risk. In uncertain times, the true cost of sourcing is revealed not in the invoice but in the resilience of the supply chain behind it. ![]() What trust really means in global sourcing Trust in a global sourcing partner is not built on promises or polished presentations. It is earned through capability, visibility and accountability across the entire supply chain. At its core, a trusted sourcing partner provides: • Qualified, verified manufacturing partners. Not just factories that can quote, but factories that are audited, proven and appropriate for the application. • Engineering oversight on the ground, with native-speaking teams embedded in manufacturing regions who understand local culture, standards and risks. • End-to-end ownership, from prototype qualification and sampling through production, quality assurance, logistics, customs and final delivery. • Risk-managed sourcing strategies, designed to anticipate disruption rather than simply react to it. In uncertain markets, trust is the difference between firefighting issues and maintaining operational control. Visibility beats reassurance Many sourcing relationships fail not because of bad intent, but because of poor visibility. A credible global sourcing partner does not obscure complexity; they manage it transparently. This level of transparency becomes especially critical when manufacturers are planning cautiously, holding leaner inventories and facing intense pressure to deliver reliably with limited headroom. ![]() Global reach, local expertise One of the most underestimated elements of trust in sourcing is local presence. Manufacturing regions operate under different norms, regulatory environments and business cultures. Without experienced teams on the ground, OEMs are effectively managing risk at arm’s length. Partners with in-country engineering and quality teams bridge that gap. They validate processes, inspect product, challenge assumptions and resolve issues in real time, long before they become costly problems downstream. In uncertain times, proximity equals control. From supplier to strategic partner The most resilient OEMs are those who treat sourcing not as a procurement function, but as a strategic capability. They work with partners who understand their products, their customers and their risk profile. And who are aligned with long-term performance, not short-term gain. This shift is already happening across global manufacturing. As the industry data suggests, growth will return but it will be incremental, competitive and hard-won. In that environment, dependable execution matters more than optimism. ![]() Why trust matters more than ever Uncertainty will not disappear in 2026 or beyond. What will differentiate successful manufacturers is how well they prepare for it. A trusted global sourcing partner provides stability where markets cannot. They reduce exposure, protect quality and enable OEMs to focus on innovation and growth rather than constant supply-chain disruption. In uncertain times, sourcing is no longer about finding the lowest cost. It’s about finding a partner you can rely on when it matters most. Want greater confidence in your supply chain? ATG manages every stage, from initial qualification through production, quality assurance and delivery therefore helping you build a more dependable and streamlined supply network. From Prototype to Delivery: Every Step Covered
The ATG approach to fully managed sourcing: quality, control and consistency at every stage. |
|
When OEMs outsource component production, they’re not just buying a part: they’re investing in the performance, reliability, and continuity of their entire product line. And while global sourcing can unlock major advantages in cost, capacity, and capability, it also introduces risk at every stage: supplier selection, engineering communication, production consistency, logistics, compliance and delivery.
At ATG, we’ve spent many years building a sourcing model that removes these risks entirely. With fully qualified factories, native-speaking engineering teams, comprehensive quality control, and complete logistics oversight, we turn complex, multi-stage supply chains into a dependable, end-to-end service. This is what it looks like when every step from prototype to delivery is covered. ![]() Step 1. Understanding the Prototype Phase: Getting It Right Early The prototype stage is where success, or failure, begins. A small miscommunication, unclear design spec, or undocumented material requirement can cascade into costly revisions later. ATG’s approach ensures prototypes are set up for success from day one: • Native-speaking, on the ground engineers work directly with manufacturing partners to ensure every drawing, tolerance and requirement is precisely understood. • Supplier capability checks confirm the right partner is selected based on equipment, experience, certifications and past performance. • Transparent timelines and feasibility reviews uncover potential manufacturability issues while it’s still cheap and easy to adjust. The result? Faster prototype approval, fewer revisions, and a smoother transition to scaled production. Step 2. Supplier Qualification: Trust Built on Verification Selecting the right supplier is more than ticking a box. It’s about long-term confidence that your component will be produced to spec, repeatably, reliably and without surprises. ATG maintains a fully verified supplier network built over decades. Every partner is assessed for: • Quality systems & certifications • Process control and inspection capability • Material traceability • Equipment accuracy and maintenance standards • Operational ethics and sustainability compliance This isn’t a one-time audit. It’s an ongoing qualification process guided by real-world output, not promises. ![]() Step 3. Production Oversight: Precision Every Time Once prototypes are approved and production begins, consistency becomes the priority. This is where ATG’s blend of engineering oversight and quality control delivers a major advantage to OEMs. Our on-the-ground teams provide: • In-process inspections, not just final checks • Batch testing and dimensional verification • Tooling and fixture assessments • Preventative quality reviews to catch issues early Because our engineers speak the language, understand the culture, and work directly inside the factories, potential deviations are identified early - before they impact delivery timelines or downstream operations. For OEMs, this means predictable quality, predictable output and predictable costs. Step 4. Logistics & Compliance: Global Reach Without the Headaches Shipping parts internationally, especially in high volume or precision categories, comes with a long list of potential pitfalls: • Delays at customs • Incorrect paperwork • Duties and tariff surprises • Consolidation issues • Freight damage • Inefficient routing • Unclear delivery scheduling ATG removes these risks with complete logistics management, from factory gate to final delivery destination. Our teams organise: • Freight forwarders • Shipping schedules • Customs and duty management • Country-specific compliance • Packaging optimisation • Inventory planning • Consolidated shipments across multiple suppliers You don’t have to manage dozens of moving parts. You get one reliable partner, one process, and one predictable outcome. ![]() Step 5. Delivery & Beyond: Reliability That Strengthens OEM Performance Delivery isn’t the end of the process; it’s proof that every stage before it was managed properly. ATG ensures: • On-time, in-full delivery • Accurate documentation and traceability • Consistent replenishment for ongoing production • Visibility at every stage of the supply chain For OEMs, this makes planning easier, reduces downtime risk, and eliminates the hidden costs that can erode savings in global sourcing. But delivery is also the beginning of the next cycle. Every shipment informs continuous improvement: checking trend data, refining processes and enhancing long-term supplier performance. Why OEMs Choose ATG Global When every step is covered, OEMs gain: • Reduced sourcing risk • Better quality consistency • Lower total cost of ownership • Improved production planning • Confidence in global supply chain resilience We don’t just deliver parts - we deliver certainty. ATG’s combination of local engineering teams, verified manufacturing partners, comprehensive quality control and end-to-end logistics creates a sourcing environment built for reliability. The Role of Local Engineering Teams in Global Sourcing
Local engineers bridge language, quality, and technical gaps - turning global sourcing into reliable, risk-free delivery. |
|
In today’s interconnected manufacturing landscape, sourcing components across borders has become standard practice. However, while global sourcing can unlock cost advantages, technical capabilities, and supply flexibility, it also introduces new layers of risk - particularly around communication, quality control, and engineering alignment.
That’s where local engineering teams make the difference. Having skilled, native-speaking engineers on the ground in manufacturing countries bridges the gap between OEM expectations and supplier execution - turning global sourcing into a controlled, high-reliability process rather than a gamble. ![]() Bridging Language and Technical Barriers When sourcing internationally, even small misunderstandings can lead to expensive mistakes. Drawings misinterpreted, tolerances missed, or material specs substituted. All can result in costly rework and production delays. Local engineering teams eliminate this risk. They speak both the technical language of the OEM and the local language of the manufacturer. This dual fluency ensures that every specification, drawing, and change request is clearly understood and implemented exactly as intended. It’s not just translation; it’s true technical alignment across borders. Quality Assurance at the Source Quality doesn’t happen in inspection; it happens in process control. Local engineers play a critical role in ensuring that production follows verified procedures, materials are correctly sourced, and final parts meet the intended performance criteria. By being present during production setup and validation, local teams can spot potential issues before they become defects. They carry out factory audits, process reviews, and in-process checks; closing the feedback loop in real time. The result: consistent quality and fewer surprises when parts arrive at the OEM’s door. ![]() Faster Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement Issues inevitably arise in complex supply chains. The speed and effectiveness of the response determine whether those issues cause disruption, or are quietly resolved without impact. Local engineers shorten that response time dramatically. They can visit the factory the same day a problem is reported, investigate root causes, and coordinate corrective actions immediately. This agility not only minimises downtime but also strengthens supplier relationships through collaboration rather than escalation. Over time, these on-the-ground experts help improve supplier processes, building capability and stability for future programs. ![]() Supporting OEM Innovation and Reliability For OEMs developing new products, local engineering presence also supports faster prototyping, tool qualification, and first article approval. It allows technical validation to happen closer to the point of manufacture, speeding up the feedback cycle while maintaining rigorous oversight. At ATG, our native-speaking engineering teams are stationed in key manufacturing regions, enabling seamless coordination from design to delivery. They ensure every sourced component meets not just price targets but also the reliability, precision and performance standards our OEM partners demand. Conclusion Global sourcing is no longer just about finding a low-cost supplier, it’s about building a resilient, transparent and technically aligned supply network. Local engineering teams are the foundation of that success: translating expectations, verifying quality, and ensuring every part performs as designed. With ATG, you don’t just source worldwide; you source with eyes, ears, and expertise on the ground. For a risk free procurement solution that will help improve your bottom line, then ATG is the perfect choice for you.
